IDEA工业设计奖介绍及2015年参赛方法

[导读]自从2009年美国IDEA工业设计奖在中国得到正式推广以来,参赛作品逐年增多。更令人高兴的是,从中国(包括台湾和港澳地区)递交的参赛作品质量也有大幅提升,获奖作品数量每年都有增多。 为鼓励

自从2009年IDEA在中国得到正式推广以来,参赛作品逐年增多。更令人高兴的是,从中国(包括台湾和港澳地区)递交的参赛作品质量也有大幅提升,获奖作品数量每年都有增多。

IDEA,1980年首次举办,称为工业设计优秀奖Industrial Design Excellence Award,2007年因其国际参与度大大提高和设计业的不断融合力改称为国际设计优秀奖International Design Excellence Award,每年12月初开始在http://www.idsa.org/idea#oid=1007_68 上接收作品申请。组织者一直为IDSA美国工业设计师协会。
赞助媒体为《美国商业周刊》,2007年金融危机期间倒闭后被Bloomberger彭博咨询购并,IDEA的赞助媒体便改为《快速公司》(Fast Company),但各大主要纸介、电视、网络和数字媒体都一直争相报道竞赛结果。
赞助媒体与其他媒体在报导IDEA上的唯一区别是,赞助媒体享有在IDEA终评结果通知每位获奖者之后一个月的独家报导权,全球其他各种媒体在此期限之后才能报导、采访或撰写当届IDEA各种信息、故事或精彩瞬间。
值得一提的是,近几年来,www.id-shape.com 和 www.id-bottle.com 两家创新设计集资网站不断密切关注IDEA竞赛入围及获奖作品,为富有创新又实施性很强的概念性作品集资,从而大大提高了设计专业学生和年轻设计师参加IDEA竞赛的积极性。通过参赛入围或获奖,进而得到资金或其他赞助的故事和报道频繁见诸IDSA美国工业设计师协会的INNOVATION季刊、Core77设计网站、《快速公司》杂志、以及其他媒体。当然通过参赛,提高品牌认可度,已经是公认的事实。
评委:
这个网站上对于IDEA历届评委和历届类别都有权威介绍。IDEA评委20人左右,为全球工业设计界精英构成,半数须新入选者,单纯从事设计教育者极少,纯粹的设计理论家无。毕竟世界发达国家工业设计走在我们前头很多年,这些设计精英的存在是明显例证。每年新评委的选入也由旧评委根据新增设的类别和设计趋势等进行推荐,并开会决定。IDSA在IDEA评选过程中一直扮演组织者的角色,这也是IDEA为啥一直享有世界最公正奖项的原因。
类别:
IDEA类别一直随世界经济、产业类别和部门发展有所调整,2010年17个(商用与工业产品、通讯工具、计算机设备、设计战略、娱乐、环境、家居、互动产品体验、休闲、医疗与科学产品、办公及生产、包装与平面、个人服饰、设计研究、服务设计、学生类、交通。),2012年21个(盥洗室浴室身体清洁保健、商用与工业、通讯工具、计算机设备、娱乐、环境、花园与户外、厨房、客厅与卧房、休闲、医疗与科学产品、办公与生产、个人服饰、服务设计、社会影响力、交通、设计战略、互动产品体验、数字设计、包装与平面、设计研究、学生类。)
2012年IDEA取消“家居类”,增设“厨房、卫生间、客厅卧房、花园和户外”4个类别。同时增设“社会影响力”和“数字设计”2个全新类别。2013年和2014年的类别一直没有再调整。一直有别于IF和红点的类别是:服务设计、设计战略、设计研究、环境设计、产品互动体验。
由此可见,基本上啥东西都能参赛的。一般人容易把IDEA设计竞赛误认为是工业设计类奖项,其实它无所不包,“环境”类别中含有展览展示、室内外装修、店面陈设等;“数字设计”即网站网页和电子产品的界面等;而“包装与平面”里则含有通常所指的平面和艺术设计的内容。
负责推广IDEA几年来,我感觉IDEA这些类别中,迥异于其他设计奖项的是“战略设计”、“设计研究”和“服务设计”。这是比较高瞻远瞩,以一概全,对其他各种设计内容有指导和概括意义的设计类别和设计工作。这几样做得好,其他设计都会做得好,其他非设计类工作也会做得好,是项目则导致成功的项目,是企业则会导致全球一流的企业,如果是一个组织也能把它运营成为全球最优秀的单位。
此外,人文关怀及社会责任是IDEA获奖作品中越来越强调的主题。关心弱势群体、促进社会各阶层之间和谐共处、改善人类生存环境、各种社会组织和企业及非盈利机构的可持续发展、以及不同的地理区域和地球乃至宇宙间合作共赢和可持续运转,这些都是IDEA评委日益重视的内容。因此,我经常感慨,我们从小向往的理想的共产主义社会将由“工业设计”这一手段和途径来实现。对此最好的映射是,2012年IDEA新增加的“社会影响力”这个类别。
获奖几率
经常有人问我IDEA国际设计优秀奖获奖比例有多少?如果参赛,获奖或入围的胜算有多少?我的回答是:IDEA没有获奖比例。如果评委们认为,某个类别没有值得授予金奖的作品,那个类别的金奖就会空缺。你若买本IDEA国际设计优秀奖年鉴,随便哪一年的,都会看到很多类别的金奖或银奖或铜奖空缺。还好,没有发生过全年IDEA国际设计优秀奖所有类别金银铜奖都空缺的情况!从这个角度,又一次说明IDEA国际设计优秀奖的公正性。那么这也说明,每年都有好作品诞生,说明我们人类的创造力永无枯竭而源源滋生!设计师们确实做到了“让世界、让我们的生活更美好”这个许诺。设计师万岁!

IDEA 2013 Entry Rules, Criteria & Instructions

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA 参赛合格的标准
To be eligible for IDEA 2013, the following criteria must be met:

为合格参赛2013年的IDEA竞赛,须满足如下标准:

Participant Qualifications参赛资格

Open to designs and designers worldwide.

面向全球的设计作品和设计师。

Student entries can only be submitted in the Student Category, even if the design is in research, production or corporately funded.

凡是学生参赛,皆须把作品递交于“学生类别”之下。

If your entry didn't win last year and if the entry still meets all the other criteria, it may be resubmitted.

去年参赛但未获奖之作品如仍满足今年之参赛要求,则仍可递交参赛。

Designs may be entered in multiple categories, but each entry must be purchased and submitted separately. Awards will not be given to the same design in more than one product category (e.g. Medical/Scientific and Home Living); however, a design may win awards in both a product category and Design Strategy, Digital Design and/or Research.

同一款产品可以提交到多种类别下同时参赛,但要分别计费。同一款作品不会同时获得多种产品类奖项(比如医疗/科学和户外/花园),但同一款作品可以既获产品类别奖项,也获如下一种或多种奖项:设计战略、数字设计、设计研究、社会影响力。


Distribution qualifications

销售资质

Products must have been placed in distribution between February 2011 and February 2013. This means the product must be available for sale in its final form to its intended end users through normal sales channels during that period, except in the case of the Social Impact Design category where products are often given as part of an aid effort or donation program.

Student entries must have been submitted to the school between February 2011 and February 2013.

Design Concept entries must not be scheduled for production. If you are submitting a Design Concept, it must have been finalized or submitted to the client between February 2011 and February 2013.

Research designs must have been submitted to the client or school between February 2008 and February 2013.

JUDGING CRITERIA 评判标准
The IDEA 2013 judging is based on the following criteria of industrial design excellence. These criteria are weighted by the judges as they deem appropriate for the category:

· Innovation (design, experience, manufacturing)

创新性:从设计、体验和制造三方面来评判

· Benefit to the user (performance, comfort, safety, ease of use, usability, user interface, ergonomics, universal function and access, quality of life, affordability)

用户受益程度:考虑角度包括性能、舒适度、安全性、使用方便性、可用性、用户界面、人机互动性、普遍功用、大众获取便捷性、生活质量、是否让人买得起。

· Responsibility: Benefit to society, environment, culture and economy (improved accessibility to a greater percentage of the population, improves education, meets basic needs of low income populations, reduces disease, improves competitiveness, raises wealth, improves the quality of life, supports cultural diversity, improves energy efficiency, durability, addresses product lifecycle effects on the environment, uses low impact materials and processes throughout lifecycle, designed for repair/reuse/recyclability, addresses issues of toxicity, reduced material usage and waste reduction)

责任:有益于社会、环境、文化和经济,更多人可以获取、减少疾病、提高竞争力、增加财富、提高生活质量、支持文化多元化发展、提高能源效率、耐用性、涉及产品生命周期对环境的影响,在整个产品生命周期都使用对环境影响小的材料和过程、方便修理/再使用/可循环性、涉及排毒问题、节约用材、考虑到废物利用等。

· Design Strategy Category (internal factors and methods, strategic value and implementation)

ENTRY PROCESS作品递交程序
Entries will only be accepted online at
http://www.omnicontests3.com/idsa/omnicontests?competition_id=6 for the first round of judging. Finalists that conform to the core judging criteria will be asked to submit physical samples of their designs for the final round of judging. If a Finalist entry is too large or heavy, entrants will be asked to send in video or scale models/prototypes, extra images, product spec sheets or other material.

· One glamour shot – a crisp, clear professional photograph that shows your product’s best side and fills the frame. It should be horizontally-oriented, have a contrasting background (white is best), and be attention-grabbing and visually compelling. File should be saved as a 768 x 1024 pixel .JPG, no larger than 500KB.

The judging is blind: the designers, their names and the names of consulting firms may not appear anywhere in the entry form or image/file uploads. Failure to abide by this rule results in immediate disqualification. It’s acceptable for brand names or logos of manufacturing companies/clients to appear if they are inherent to the product.

匿名评判:设计师、设计师之姓名及咨询事务所之名称,都不准在参赛申请表格或图样/文档中任何地方出现。未遵循此规则者将立即被取消参赛资格。若制造商/客户之品牌名称或标识为产品不可分割之部分,则可出现。


Note: For entrants in categories requiring special entry forms (Research, Strategy and Digital Design), please refer to the special entry form template for specific requirements. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your entry.

JUDGING PROCESS / AWARDS 评选过程/奖项
Jurors do their initial scoring online in teams of two for their assigned categories. In this first stage of judging, the jury will evaluate all entries for eligibility, completeness, thoroughness, appropriateness and general conformance to award criteria. Specific criteria may be weighted differently in different categories, at the judges’ discretion.

首轮评选时,评委每两人一组对分配给他们的作品种类进行在线评分。在此第一阶段评判中,评委将评估所有参赛作品之合格性、完整性、彻底性、及与奖项标准之适合度和基本统一性。依参赛种类之不同,评委可以自己选择采用特别之标准对参赛作品进行不同的评估。


Finalists meeting a minimum score after the first round will be invited to submit samples or other supplementary material. Complete instructions will be provided to Finalists upon notification.

首轮评判后,以最低分数进入决赛者,将须提交样品或其他补充材料。完整说明将通知与所有决赛者。


In the second, final judging stage, the jury as a whole will meet in their teams to review the supplementary entry material sent in by the Finalists in their categories. Each team will decide which Finalists exemplify the key principles of design excellence and will make recommendations to the jury as a whole for Gold, Silver and Bronze winners. The entire jury will vote to make final award determinations. The jury’s decisions are final.

在第二、末轮评选阶段,整个评委将分组现场实地评判由决赛者按不同种类发送的补充参赛材料。每组评委将决定哪些决赛者能够代表优秀设计的主要原则,每组评委同时向整个评委建议金、银和铜奖得主。全体评委将投票选举,以决定最终奖项得主。最后以全体评委的最终决定为准。


Best Student Design, Best Concept Design, Best of Category Awards and Paradigm Shifter Awards (or other ad hoc awards) may also be given at the jury’s discretion. The Best in Show Award may be given to one or more Gold-winning entry deemed best in show by the jurors. This award will be determined at the conclusion of the regular jurying by clear majority vote.

最佳学生设计、最佳概念设计、最佳种类奖和模式转移奖(或者其他随机之奖项)也可由评委自行决定授予。最佳展示奖将授予一个或多个金奖得主,为评审员认为陈列展示中最佳者。此奖项将按多数服从少数的原则由一般评审方式最终决定。


Curator’s Choice Award: Voting for this award will be conducted live at The Henry Ford Museum and voted on by the public.

馆藏之选择:此奖项将在亨利·福特博物馆现场由公众投票选举而产生。


People’s Choice Award: Voting for this award will be done online after the winners are announced and is open to the public. Each person may only vote once. Voting will also be open during the international conference in August 2013. Only the Gold winners will be eligible to win the Designer’s Choice Award.

Responsibility Award: This award will be given by the jury in conjunction to Gold, Silver and Bronze awards to those designs deemed most responsible to society, economy, environment and culture.

All decisions of the Jury and Sponsors are final. IDSA makes no guarantees as to the number and type of IDEA awards given each year. All data contained in the submission become the property of IDSA and part of its archives. Supplementary judging material and product samples submitted by Finalists will be held by The Henry Ford’s permanent collection (winners only). By submitting an entry, you agree that IDSA and any other party authorized by it shall have permission to publish any material contained in the submission. Award entry material is on the public record and no content will be treated confidentially.

AWARD NOTIFICATION 获奖通知
On or about March 28, 2013, the Jury will select Finalists (“Selected Entrants”) to enter the final round of judging. All Selected Entrants will be required to respond (as directed) to the phone and/or e-mail notification within one week of attempted notification. Failure to respond in a timely manner to the notification may result in forfeiture of the award and, in such cases, IDSA may re-score entries and select a new entrant. Each Selected Entrant will be asked to transport, at their cost and risk, additional supplementary material for judging, and may also be sent an affidavit of eligibility / liability / publicity release (“Release”). Entrant agrees to grant IDSA, its sponsor(s), third-party vendors and agents the unrestricted rights to publish, display and use the submitted design, entrant’s name, voice, photograph, logo, or other mark or likeness, as well as same of the designer(s), for advertising and promoting the competition and other related purposes in any media without additional permission or compensation (optional for TN residents.) Selected Entrants may also be required to provide other relevant information. Unless restricted by law, each selected entrant will be required to complete and return the Release along with requested supplementary judging material within the time period specified therein.

在2013年3月30日当天或前后几天,评委选出决赛者(“决赛作品得主”)参加末轮评选。所有决赛作品得主都将必须在收到通知后一周内、按指示说明对电话和/或电子邮件通知进行答复。未能及时答复通知者将导致对奖项之弃权,由此美国工业设计师协会将对参赛作品重新计分,另选作品代替此奖项弃权者。每位决赛作品得主都须自费、自担风险运送补充材料以供末轮评判,他们也可能收到一份宣誓书,阐明资格/可靠性/公开发布的获准。决赛作品得主同意授予美国工业设计师协会、其赞助商、第三方销售商和代理非限定之权利,不予另外获准或回报的前提下,以在任何媒体上出版、展示和使用提交之设计、参赛作品之名称、声音、照片、标识、或其他标志或类似之物、以及设计师之类似东西,为宣传和推广此设计竞赛和其他相关目的之用。决赛作品得主也须提供其他相关信息。除非法律另有限定,否则每位决赛作品得主皆须按照在此规定的期限内完成并随所要求之补充评审材料递交宣誓书。


CONDITIONS条件
Competition is subject to these Official Rules.

By participating, entrants agree to be bound by these complete Official Rules, and, whether or not a member, the terms of ethics on IDSA’s web site. All decisions of Sponsor are final and binding; and entrants agree to waive any right to claim ambiguity in the Competition or these Official Rules, except where prohibited by law. By accepting an award, winner agrees to release Sponsor, its attorneys, affiliates, together with the respective directors, employees, officers, licensees, licensors and agents of each, including without limitation, their respective advertising and promotion entities and any person or entity associated with the production, judging or administration of the Contest, (collectively, the Releases) from any and all liability, loss or damage arising from or in connection with awarding, receipt and/or use or misuse of award or participation in any award-related activities. Sponsor reserves the right to use the Contest for publicity purposes in any media, and to use the name, likeness, entry materials and hometown name and/or award information of Selected Entrants as part of that publicity, without any compensation or prior review unless prohibited by law. Sponsor may cancel the contest for any reason, at its sole discretion. This Contest is void everywhere such contests are prohibited or restricted by law and subject to applicable federal, state provincial and local laws. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any entrant it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or violating these Official Rules. The Releases shall not be liable for: (i) late, lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete, unreadable, inaccurate, garbled or unintelligible entries, or communications; (ii) broadband, cable, telephone system, telephone or computer hardware, software or other technical or computer malfunctions, lost connections, disconnections, delays or transmission errors; (iii) data corruption, theft, destruction, unauthorized access to or alteration of entry or other materials; (iv) any injuries, losses or damages of any kind caused by acceptance of the award or resulting from acceptance, possession or use of the award, or from participation in the Contest; or (v) any printing, typographical, administrative or technological errors in any materials associated with the Contest. Sponsors disclaim any liability for damage to any computer system resulting from participating in, or accessing or downloading information in connection with this Contest, and reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to cancel, modify or suspend the Contest should a virus, bug, computer problem, unauthorized intervention or other causes beyond Sponsors’ control, corrupt the administration, security or proper play of the Contest. Sponsors may prohibit an entrant from participating in the Contest or winning award if, in its sole discretion, it determines such entrant is attempting to undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest in any way by cheating, hacking, deception or any other unfair playing practices of intending to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other players or Sponsors’ representatives. Disputes regarding these Official Rules and/or this Contest will be governed by the internal laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Any and all legal actions or claims arising in connection with this Contest must be brought in a court of competent jurisdiction within Virginia, and you agree to jurisdiction and venue in the courts of Virginia. Entrant acknowledges and agrees that IDSA reserves the right to amend, modify or terminate the competition at any time. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE IDSA or any of the sponsors AND/OR CONTEST-RELATED WEBSITES OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE IN VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION FROM PARTICIPATION IN THE CONTEST. The Sponsors shall not be involved in any dispute and shall be held harmless and free of any liability in any dispute regarding intellectual property rights. By entering this Competition, Entrant warrants that Entry does not infringe on the Intellectual Property rights of others.

2012年12月1日为开赛日期:每款作品收费400美金,若为IDSA美国工业设计师协会会员,则每款作品收费300美金。学生每递交一款作品,费用125美金。

2012年2月10日23点59分(美国西部时间)作品交付截止,此后递交之作品则每款多交150美金。

2012年2月17日23点59分(美国西部时间)为最迟作品交付期限。
